  • 500g Beef or Lamb mince
    2 tablespoons of oil or ghee
    1 brown onion, chopped
    1 garlic clove, chopped
    1 (150g) tin diced tomatoes
    1 teaspoon tomato paste
    1/2  cup of water or beef stock
    1/3 cup coconut milk
    1 small handful of mint, finely chopped,
    with, extra for garnish
    1 small handful of coriander, finely chopped,
    with, extra for garnish
    1 egg, lightly beaten
    ½ tablespoon lime juice.

  • 1 ½ kg Beef or Lamb  mince
    ¼ cup of oil or ghee
    2 brown onions, chopped
    3 garlic cloves, chopped
    1 (400g) tin diced tomatoes
    1 tablespoon tomato paste
    1 1/2 cups of water or beef stock
    1 cup coconut milk
    1 large handful of mint, finely chopped,
    and, extra for garnish
    1 large handful of coriander finely chopped,
    and, extra for garnish
    1 egg, lightly beaten
    1½ tablespoons lime juice.

Cooking Method

Heat the oil or ghee in a heavy based pan on medium heat.  Cook the onion and garlic for 5 minutes.  Add Spice Blendz Spicy Koftas spice mix.  Cook, stirring for 30 seconds. Remove half of the onion mixture from the pan and set aside to cool.  Add the tomatoes and tomato paste to the remaining onion in the pan stir until mixture simmers and allow to simmer for 5 minutes.

Add the stock/water and coconut milk.  Bring to a boil, then remove from heat and set aside.  Add the mince, herbs and beaten egg to the cooled onion mixture.  With wet hands, roll the meat into walnut sized balls.  Cover and put into fridge for 30 minutes.  Return the sauce to simmering point over medium heat.  Add the kofta balls and cook over low heat for 1 hour, or until cooked through and the sauce has thickened.  Stir in the lime juice.

Garnish with the extra herbs.

Serving Suggestion – our spicy koftas is complimented with rice and naan bread.
